How Tennis Betting Odds Work
Understanding tennis odds can seem confusing at first, but there’s no need to worry as both decimal and fractional odds are really easy to understand once explained. Moneyline odds, however, are slightly more complex, but as they’re only really used in the United States, we’ll stick to explaining what’ll be most relevant. Take a look at the example below.
Novak Djokovic: 1.50 (1/2)Rafael Nadal: 2.10 (11/10)
Above you can see, both decimal and fractional odds for a matchup between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
The lower the decimal or the fraction, the more likely the betting site thinks the player is to win. So, in this example, Djokovic is the favourite to win, but only just.
Let’s say you bet 100 rupees on Djokovic. Just take that 100 rupees and multiply them by the decimal. This will show you how much you should win. So, a 100-rupee bet on Djokovic would lead to a payout of 150 rupees.
Fractional odds are slightly harder. To start, divide the first number by the second number. You then multiply the result by the stake. Unlike with decimal odds, you then need to add the original stake to the resulting number.
So, using Nadal’s odds of 11/10 and a bet of 100 rupees, you’d start by dividing 11 by 10, which equals 1.1. Then multiply 1.1 by the stake, giving you 110 rupees. You then add the 100-rupee bet, giving a total payout of 210 rupees.
We’d always recommend using decimal odds when placing a bet. Some sites will provide this option automatically, however you may have to manually change the odds format over to decimal at some online sportsbooks.
