How we Review the Best Cricket Betting Sites

At Casino.in, we take our sports betting very seriously, and our passion for cricket betting is really second to none. Whether you’re a Sachin Tendulkar fan or were always team MS Dhoni, one thing we can all agree on is that where you play matters. In order to make our recommended list of sportsbooks for cricket betting, there are six strict criteria considered by the expert reviewers.

Fully licensed and certified

Gaming licenses vary from state to state, but we’ll only ever recommend SSL encrypted betting sites regulated by global industry bodies like eCOGRA and approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC).

Excellent cricket odds

A sportsbook must offer extensive markets and cricket betting odds for major competitions like the Indian Premier League, Test Matches and One Day Internationals to get our recommendation.

Secure site

SSL encrypted servers and high-tech security is essential to keep your account and personal details safe. If a site doesn’t offer that, then you won’t find it on our list.

Customer service

Only the best customer service will do for our users. All the shortlisted sportsbooks have customer support available 24/7 in multiple languages to serve India’s multicultural population. Sites must have live chat, FAQs and swift response times to email queries.

Bonuses

It’s not enough for a sports betting site just to have a welcome bonus anymore. All our featured sportsbooks provide more with enhanced odds and price boosts available to existing customers on cricket. Sites with VIP Clubs and other promotions that reward your loyalty get a high rating from us.

Live betting

In-play or live cricket betting is now a key part of the gambling experience. Our recommended sites put this thrilling type of online sports betting at your disposal so you can make wagers while the action unfolds!

An Introduction to Cricket Betting

Introduced to India by the British in the early 1700s, Cricket has rapidly grown in popularity becoming India’s unofficial national sport since the early 20th Century. Laws were first formally introduced in 1727, and 150 years later the first Test match between England and former colonial territory Australia took place in March 1877. Since then, shorter formats of cricket have come in – the first One Day International (ODI) in 1971 and Twenty20 games in 2003.

Before we dive into the details of how to place a cricket bet, it’s important to clearly understand the rules.

  1. Two teams of 11 players contest a cricket match. A coin toss determines which team is in to bat first with willow bats and which fields with a leather cricket ball.
  2. In limited overs cricket, both teams will have one innings apiece. In Test or first-class cricket that takes place over four or five days, they have two innings.
  3. An innings sees the batting team try to score as many runs as possible. The fielding team must try to get the batting players out by bowling at the wicket.
  4. Each innings is worth 10 wickets as there are batting players at either end of a cricket pitch. Whichever team gets the most runs wins.
  5. A wicket can be taken if the bowler removes the bails by hitting the stumps that batting players are protecting.
  6. A batting player can also be out leg before wicket (lbw), where they don’t play a shot and the bowled cricket ball strikes their leg blocking the wicket.
  7. If a batting player plays a shot and the ball doesn’t hit the ground before being caught by a fielder, then they are also out.
  8. Batting players can be run out between the wickets if a fielder hits the wickets with the ball, or if the wicketkeeper stumps them out of their crease.
  9. Umpires’ decisions, on lbw calls for example, can be reviewed.
  10. If a shot from a batting player reaches the boundary rope, their team are automatically awarded four runs. Should the shot clear the boundary and land the other side, then it’s a six.

How Cricket Betting Odds Work

With the number of cricket betting sites in India growing, it’s important for novice gamblers to know how it works. Let’s take a look at the India vs West Indies Test match example below.

India 1.50 (1/2)Draw 4.00 (3/1)West Indies 2.75 (7/4)

In the example above you can bet on the result of the match, and in total there are three outcomes – provided any play is possible.

Bets are rarely offered on ‘no result’ in a game of cricket, and India are favourites in the example above as their price is the smallest.

For every two rupees you bet, you would make one rupee profit and receive a total return of three rupees on such a wager.

The West Indies, meanwhile, are less likely to win. This is reflected in their value, as they are a bigger price than India.

For every four rupees gambled, you would get 11 back – with seven rupees profit should they pull off the upset.

A draw is also possible in Test cricket and more likely than in limited overs formats. Taking a punt on a tie between India and the West Indies generates three rupees of profit for every rupee staked if the Test is drawn. Your total return here is four rupees.

It’s as simple as that! You may see odds expressed in decimal or fractional form on sportsbooks. The best will let you toggle between them. Our odds calculator below has more on that.

How to Bet on Cricket

Cricket betting is about so much more than the result of a game though. More markets are on offer now as interest in gambling on the sport soars. Broadly speaking, bets on cricket fall into one of three categories:

Most Popular Online Cricket Bet Types

Match bets – As above, online cricket betting in its most basic form is which team will win a match? You can also bet on the game ending in a draw.

Series bets – Many of the international cricket matches form series. You can bet across the series on the correct score or which team will win overall? There are also markets on who will score the most runs (best batsman) or take the most wickets (best bowler), and who’s named player of the series? If it’s a tournament, then there should also be a market on teams reaching the final.

Proposition bets – Known as props for short, these wagers often look at individual or team performances. Who will be man of the match? When will the first wicket fall? Which team will record the highest opening partnership? How many fours and/or sixes will a certain player score? Which team will get the most fours and/or sixes? Who will score the most runs per over?

Strategies and Tips for Betting on Cricket

Cricket Betting Tips & Strategies

Spread betting – Sportsbook traders have margins in mind for total runs in an innings or for a cricket player. This may be expressed on some betting sites as Under/Over. Covering the spread means a team’s or individual’s innings has fallen within or exceeded that margin.

Live betting – Also known as in-play betting, you can place wagers while a game is happening. It’s often wise to follow-up your regular fixed odds pre-match punts with a live bet to reflect what’s going on.

Asian handicap – When one cricket team are hot favourites, it’s probably poor value to bet on them to win. Looking at the Asian handicap, however, gives them an imagined deficit they need to overturn. If they do it, and cover the handicap, you could win bigger.

Mobile betting – All top cricket betting sites will have a mobile app for you to download for use on your smartphone or tablet. Here, you’re looking for a streamlined gambling experience that is quick and easy, allowing you to bet on the go.

Best Cricket Betting Tournaments

Now we’ve discussed cricket betting tips, what about the big tournaments you can get your teeth into? Look out for the following:

ICC Cricket World Cup

Held every four years, this 50-overs per side tournament sees the world’s best One Day International (ODI) sides play. The format has changed over the years, but there’s always a round robin group stage, semi-finals and a final.

ICC T20 World Cup

The world Twenty20 championship is a 20-overs per side tournament that has 16 cricket nations involved. Some have automatic entry and others must qualify. There are two group stages, semi-finals and a final.

The Ashes

Test cricket doesn’t get any more dramatic or intense than this. England and Australia play each other in a five-Test series. The Ashes usually alternate between Australia touring England and England going Down Under.

Indian Premier League

The most lucrative T20 tournament in cricket. Players from all over the world sign for an IPL franchise. India is cricket mad and this Twenty20 event sees eight teams all play one another, home and away, before the top four go through playoffs that determine the winner.

Big Bash

Australia’s equivalent of the Indian Premier League. Like that fellow T20 competition, eight teams all play each other, home and away, but the top four then go into a knockout phase with semi-finals and a final.

Caribbean Premier League

The West Indian version of the Indian Premier League. Yet another T20 event, there are six teams that play each other home and away. Playoffs involving the top four determine the winner.

ACC Asia Cup

Asian cricketing countries play in a One Day International (ODI) tournament every couple of years. There are two group stages and a final here. India are by far the most successful side in Asia Cup history.

Test Matches

The traditional form of cricket still has its place. India welcome the world’s best and go on tour testing themselves against other top cricket-playing countries.
